Wade Gugino grew up in Midland, Michigan. Although he has never had any formal training, he has always loved cartooning and has developed cartoon technique and understanding. After graduating from Hope in 1992 with a business and art composite degree, he played basketball abroad until 2005. While overseas, Wade studied how other cultures use graphic stories and cartoon techniques for social commentary and communication. He regularly attended cartoon festivals and contributed to a number of European newspapers and magazines, most notably France’s top basketball magazine MaxiBasket. Despite the stigma cartoons and comics sometimes carry in the States, Wade believes they are a sophisticated and effective way to transmit ideas. Upon returning to the United States in 2007, he founded Googenius, a company dedicated to applying cartoons to a broad spectrum of communication needs.
