Professor Ghrist has been on the faculty at Penn since 2008, with previous tenured positions at the University of Illinois and Georgia Tech. His 1995 Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics is from Cornell University. Professor Ghrist received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists & Engineers from President Bush in 2004, and he was named a "Top 50" researcher by Scientific American in 2007. In 2013, he was awarded the Chauvenet Prize, the highest award for mathematical writing. He is the author of three books, 80 papers, and a popular Coursera class on calculus that has taught tens of thousands across the world.
