Michael Balboni, Ph.D., Th.M., M.Div, is an Instructor at Harvard Medical School and a researcher in the Department of Psychosocial Oncology and Palliative Care at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, MA, and a faculty scholar with the Program on Religion and Medicine at the University of Chicago. As a social-scientific researcher, his focus has been on spirituality and religion and its associations with end-of-life medical outcomes. As a trained theologian, he is currently co-authoring a manuscript to be published with Oxford University Press that explores the manifestations of spirituality and religion within the socialization processes and institutional structures experienced by medical professionals. Michael’s spouse, Tracy Balboni, MD, MPH, is a Harvard radiation oncologist and clinical researcher in the field of spirituality and medicine. Together they have two children.
