John H. Walton is a Professor of Old Testament at Wheaton College and former professor of Old Testament at Moody Bible Institute for 20 years. His work primarily emphasizes Israelite interactions with Ancient Near East backgrounds and the development of Hebrew Culture, particularly Genesis. John’s work challenges modern readers to compare the culture and literature of the Bible with its Ancient Near East background. He is passionate about giving people a better understanding of the Old Testament. His latest upcoming publication is Lost World of Adam and Eve (IVP: 2015, forthcoming this March), and his recent publications include Lost World of Scripture (IVP: 2013), Genesis 1 as Ancient Cosmology (Eisenbrauns: 2011), and Lost World of Genesis One (IVP: 2009). He has also served as the General Editor for a five volume series, The Zondervan Illustrated Bible Backgrounds Commentary, and General Editor of a 20 vol. Baker Commentary Series, Teach the Text. Professor Walton has an M.A. in Biblical Studies with an Old Testament concentration from Wheaton Graduate School and he earned his PhD from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion focusing on Hebrew and Cognate Studies.
