Hamid Shirvani has served as president of California State University, Stanislaus since 2005. Since his appointment the university has seen substantial growth, including increases in research funding, enrollment and quality of student applicants and educational offerings. Shirvani also led the university through a successful reaccreditation effort.

Shirvani is widely known for his contributions to the fields of architecture and urban design and planning. He has authored three books as well as several dozen papers in various refereed and professional journals. His books have been used as major texts in classrooms throughout the United States and abroad.

Shirvani has served as Vice Chair of the Economic and Workforce Development Committee and a member of the President’s Council of National Collegiate Athletic Association II, the Professional Development Center of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, the Commission on International Initiatives of the American Council on Education, the executive committee of the Higher Education Consortium of Central California, the board of trustees of the Gallo Center for the Performing Arts, and the governing board of the Stockton Site Authority.
