Professor Ahuja's research interests focus on competitive analysis, innovation, and the strategic implications of globalization. His research has received several international awards from the top scholarly bodies in the field and has been cited more than 6000 times by other scholars and various federal and international bodies such as the EPA, OECD and UNEP. Professor Ahuja has been recognized for “path-breaking research” and as “a thought-leader in the field of Strategy” with the Ross Senior Faculty Research Award (2010). He also received the Il Sigillum Magnum Medal from the University of Bologna in Italy, the world’s oldest continuously functioning university.In 2011 BusinessWeek magazine ranked him #2 on the list of Most Popular Professors in the United States and the Government of India selected him to deliver the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Oration – an honor conferred upon only one person globally every year. He was also honored by the Ross School with the Distinguished Ph. D. Alumnus Award (2008).

Professor Ahuja has received numerous teaching awards from students including Best Professor in the MBA Program (1997, 1999, 2000 and 2001 at Texas and in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2010 and 2012 at the Ross School). He was also honored by the students with an Outstanding Mentor Award (2001) and a specially created Faculty Inspiration Award (2003). In 2004 he also won the Ph. D. Teaching Excellence Award becoming the first Professor to win both the MBA and the Ph.D. awards in the same year. In 2010 he repeated this distinction by winning the awards for Best Professor in the MBA program and in the Ph D Program at Ross. In 2008 he was elected Faculty Commencement Speaker and voted Best Professor in the Executive MBA program – an unusual dual honor. In 2011 he was again selected as the Best Professor in the Executive MBA program. In 2012 he was selected as the Best Professor in the MBA and Evening MBA programs. Since 1997/8 he has also been recognized as outstanding faculty in Business Week’s annual guide to the top business schools.

He has been honored with editorial roles in several of the top scholarly journals including serving as Associate Editor for the journal, Management Science, as a Senior Editor for the journal Organization Science and as an Editorial Board Member for the journals, AMR, SMJ, SO, and ASQ. He has served extensively as an invited panelist, keynote speaker and discussant in a variety of forums, conferences and academic and executive gatherings across the world.He has also trained and advised senior executives and managers from many of the world’s largest corporations. He was also elected and served as the Division Chair for the Technology and Innovation Management Division of the Academy of Management. He is been an active educator of future educators and has supervised and trained many doctoral students who are now faculty at some of the best institutions across the world. Professor Ahuja has also served as theChair of the Strategy Area since 2004 (Co-Chair from 2001 to 2004). During this period the Strategy Area at Ross has been ranked as the #1 Department in Strategy (2009, 2010) in the world according to The Financial Times’ (London) global rankings of the best business schools.
