Dr. Danny Avula is a husband, father and public health practitioner, and he has spent the last 10 years of his life trying to learn how to be a neighbor in the inner city of Richmond, VA in the North Church Hill neighborhood. He graduated from U.Va. and the VCU School of Medicine, and completed residencies at the Medical College of Virginia and Johns Hopkins University, where he also received a Master of Public Health. Danny currently serves as the Director of the Richmond City Health Department. He has been recognized by Style Magazine as one of Richmond's "Top 40 under 40," by OurHealth Magazine as one of Richmond's "Top 15 Health Care Leaders under 40" for his commitment to improving Richmond's health, and has been named on Richmond Magazine's "Top Docs" list for the past two years. He has also been featured nationally by the CDC, MSNBC and Christianity Today.
