Dr. Aleman has a degree in psychology from Ultrecht University. He has published on the topics of memory impairment in schizophrenia, the neural basis of auditory-verbal imagery and the effects of hormones on cognition, amongst others. Currently, he has been working on researching the neural underpinnings of cognitive and affective dysfunctions in psychosis and depression. In 2006 he was became Professor of Cognitive Neuropsychiatry at the University Medical Center Groningen. Now, he is head of the Section Cognitive Neuropsychiatry. Aleman is a member of the Young Academy of the K.N.A.W. (Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences) and a member of the Netherlands Health Council (Gezondheidsraad). He also serves as an Academic Editor for PLoS ONE.
