What is the relationship between faith and science? Are they compatible? MIT physicist Ian Hutchinson believes they are. Defining “scientism” as the belief that scientific knowledge is the only true knowledge, Dr. Hutchinson clears up underlying confusions in how we understand such things as science and nature and outlines several characteristics of science in his attempt to show that there are ways of knowing that are not scientific. In the end, Dr. Hutchinson argues that we can be both scientists and believers as long as we understand the distinction between science and scientism.
