A Writer's Workshop

Summary: Ms. L’Engle begins her talk by asking What is Fantasy? Arguing that we often confuse truth with fact, she says that Fantasy is a way to take us to a truth that exists beyond the realm of fact. Exploring this theme of fantasy, she delves into the relationship of faith and doubt and the nature of truth in a way that is both intimate yet applicable to all.

Some very unique views on fantasy and truth. Subpar to other Veritas speeches.
Thank you for posting this. L'Engle essays remind me of the need for poetry and story as the way we learn about God.
I thought Madeleine had some interesting ideas when it comes to fantasy writing, but I am extremely surprised to find her here on Veritas. When you listen to her speak you quickly discover her theology was terrible - universalism, disbelieving in the inerrancy of Scripture, evolutionary theory, presenting only God's love without justice and claiming the Bible can't reconcile the two, etc - in short, I was disappointed that Veritas Forum, which prides itself on presenting the truth of the Christian faith in a reasonable way, would present such a theologically unsound talk. I am aware that the topic at hand was fantasy literature, but with all this other stuff, I think it's a shame.
