Dr. Louise Antony

As a freshman at Syracuse University Dr. Louise Antony discovered and immediately fell in love with philosophy. Antony completed her undergraduate studies in Philosophy (B.A. 1975) and went on to study at Harvard University (Ph.D. 1982). She joined the faculty at UMass/Amherst in 2006. She has held previous positions at Ohio State University, 2000-2006, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, 1993-2000, North Carolina State University, 1986-1993, Bates College, 1983-1986, Boston University, 1981-1983, and the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, 1980-1981. Her main research interest lies in the philosophy of mind, the theory of knowledge, and feminist theory with a special interest in philosophical questions about human nature. She has authored or edited numerous published articles, essays and books including the recently edited Philosophers Without Gods, a collection of essays by leading philosophers who happen to be atheists, and who are willing to share their personal experiences as nonbelievers, and their reflections on life without religious faith.
