Montana Tech of the University of Montana

One hundred years ago, the tragic toll of the great influenza pandemic reached an unimaginable scale in Montana. Join Father Patrick Beretta, Dr. John Pullman and Ellen Crain of the Butte Archives for “When the Blue Death Plagued Montana: Remembering the 1918 Influenza Pandemic” from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, in the Montana Tech auditorium.

The “Evening of Reflections on a City in Peril” will begin with a ceremony, led by Crain, to honor the Butte victims. Dr. Pullman, an infectious disease specialist, will talk about the science of the illness. Finally, through contemporary documents and personal accounts, Father Beretta will talk about "Terror and Grief in Butte — The Human Drama and Emotional Landscape of an Epidemic." Following the presentation, a reception will be held. Hors d’oeuvres, pastries and refreshments will be served.
