Music is one of the ultimate expressions of the human spirit. While technology, theoretical understanding, historical perspective and scientific advancements have all contributed to the development of musical art, the inspiration for music most often comes from the human heart and auditory sensitivity. From the composer to the performing artist to the audience, music expresses and stimulates a wide array of feelings and emotions in human beings. Music often connects with emotions already housed in the spirit of the individual, thus allowing one who is not a trained musician to equally and powerfully experience human emotional expression through music. This 45-minute discussion will include live performances by Fresno State students and a discussion regarding the ways in which music has the power to act as a catalyst for spiritual and emotional experiences from the perspective of the creator (composer), re-creator (performer) and receptor (audience member).
