On September 11, 2001, Yale University theology professor Miroslav Volf addressed an annual international prayer breakfast at the United Nations. “I pray that God will grant you wisdom to find creative ways to practice embrace in our world shot through with violence,” he concluded—unaware that just blocks away, the Twin Towers had imploded.
