Kyle Van Houtan

Professor, Emory University

Kyle Van Houtan is a fellow with the President’s Strategic Initiative on Science and Religion and holds appointments in the Center for Ethics and Biology Department at Emory University. His research and teaching addresses the problem of extinction and combines field ecology, quantitative modelling, ethics, and theology. Dr. Van Houtan earned his Ph.D. in ecology from Duke University, received his Masters degree in evolutionary biology from Stanford University, and his Bachelor’s degree in environmental science from the University of Virginia. His research has been featured in NatureConservation Biology,Ecology LettersNew Scientist, and The New York Times. He is the editor, with Michael Northcott, ofDiversity and Dominion: Dialogues in Ecology, Ethics, and Theology (Wipf and Stock, 2009). Kyle, his wife Kelly, and daughter Hope live in Atlanta, Georgia.
