Vinoth Ramachandra Jeffrey Sachs Larry Reed
Columbia University
8 February 2002
[Discussion portion of event] Scientists are developing ever more innovative tools to use in the fight against poverty. Meanwhile, Bono and the Gateses are raising millions for the same cause. But after decades of research and investment, global poverty remains and in some areas grows even more severe. Who has the answer? What is our role? Tonight, Jeffrey Sachs of the Earth Institute, Larry Reed of Opportunity International, and Vinoth Ramachandra of Sri Lanka draw on decades of experience as they assess the quality of our efforts to untie this ageless Gordian knot.
