Losing Interest? - Imagining a Financial System without Debt

Paul Mills Jenny Corbett Colin Mayer
Oxford University
3 May 2012
We seem to be addicted to interest-bearing debt. Students, house-buyers, consumers, companies, countries. We all use it. But what does it do to us? And could we live without it? Paul Mills presents a reading of the Bible and the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim teachings on finance that lead us to a radical new understanding of a world with much less debt. Along the way, Mills argues that understanding debt can help us get a picture of the true core message of the Christian faith. Profs. Jenny Corbett and Colin Mayer respond and bring their own perspectives to the moderated discussion and q&a.
