Michelle Moody-Adams

Professor of Political Philosophy, Columbia University

Currently a professor of political philosophy and legal theory at Columbia, Moody-Adams served as Columbia College's first female and first African-American dean from 2009-2011. Before arriving at Columbia, Moody-Adams earned a B.A. in philosophy at Wellesley College and then studied at Oxford University on a Marshall Scholarship, and she earned a M.A. and Ph. D. in philosophy from Harvard University. She has also served as Cornell's vice provost for undergraduate education and was named an Honorary Fellow of Somerville College, of Oxford University. Moody-Adams is now writing a book exploring morality in history, especially the ideas of truth, reconciliation and forgiveness.
