Akeel Bilgrami

Director of the Heyman Center for the Humanities and the Johnsonian Professor of Philosophy, Columbia University

Akeel Bilgrami is the Director of the Heyman Center for the Humanities at Columbia University, and the Johnsonian Professor of Philosophy. He specializes in the Philosophy of Mind and Language, as well as Political Philosophy and Moral Psychology in politics, history, and culture. Some of his published works include, Belief and Meaning, and a collection of essays, “Politics and The Moral Psychology of Identity.” Bilgrami has a B.A. in English Literature from Bombay University, a B.A. in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago on the subject of indeterminancy of translation and issues concerning realism and linguistic meaning.
