Presenter

David Porteous

After graduate studies in Economics at Cambridge and Yale, David returned to his native South Africa in 1993 at the time of the democratic transition. His work over the succeeding 11 years took him though private and public sector work at a large consulting firm and various wholesale and retail financial institutions. The common thread in all was a commitment to development finance—the provision of appropriate financial services to the lower end of the income spectrum. In 2004, David relocated his family to the Boston area; where he is now running the international practice of a Boston based affordable housing finance house, Recap International; and consulting to the World Bank's Consultative Group to Assist the Poorest on microfinance development in developing countries. He is married to Rebecca and has two sons; and is a member of Covenant Church in Arlington, Mass.
