Philip Kitcher

One of the most influential philosophers of science of the past two decades, Dr. Philip Kitcher is John Dewey Professor of Philosophy at Columbia University. Examining both the metaphysical and popular aspects of science, Dr. Kitcher has authored many works on subjects ranging from the philosophy of biology to creationism and genetic engineering. Dr. Kitcher studied mathematics at Christ's College Cambridge and holds Ph.D's in philosophy/history and philosophy of science from Princeton. He is currently the Chair of Contemporary Civilization at Columbia, and is continually applying his expertise in the analysis of such issues as the ethical and political constraints on scientific research, and the apparent conflict between science and religion. His most recent books include Science, Truth and Democracy (2001), In Mendel's Mirror (2003), and Living with Darwin: Evolution, Design, and the Future of Faith (Oxford University Press 2007).
