Though Calcutta was very foreign to me and I spent some time adjusting, being with the Missionaries of Charity was even more disconcerting. They rarely spoke of anything but Jesus and this was a shock to me. I had never experienced people who so lived their life with their eyes on Jesus.

The largest change however happened on my return when I experienced an intellectual crisis upon realizing that Mother Teresa was completely incomprehensible and inexplicable from the intellectual frameworks that are dominant in universities. The radical secularization of the university has eliminated any real engagement of the intellectual and spiritual principles of Christianity. The university only has a very shallow idea of the depth of Christian wisdom.
