The Sound of Freedom

How Music Makes us Re-think What it Means to be Free

January 27, 2010 at 08:00 PM
Rackham Auditorium
Presenters: Jeremy Begbie, Thomas A. Langford Research Professor at Duke Divinity School

Won't becoming a Christian take away your freedom? It has been said that the quest for freedom defines the modern age. Christianity, with its God, is often portrayed as one of the worst obstacles to realizing our freedom. Jeremy Begbie argues that, through music, we begin to imagine a new world, a world that sounds remarkably like the world Jesus spoke about when he talked about being free. And we begin to imagine a very different God from the one often attacked as the enemy of human freedom —a three-note resonance of life and love.

Btw, I think the video for this recording does not work? I can hear the sound, but cannot see anything.
